This hardy, evergreen holly has glossy , dark green leaves with scalloped (not spiny) edges. In summer, it produces small white flowers, and these are followed by black berries.

Location

Japanese Holly can be grown indoors as long as it is placed in a cool position. It does tend to do better if kept outside all year. If kept inside keep in a bright location, such as a windowsill, and in summer it will benefit from a spell outdoors. In winter they prefer cool rather than excessively warm room, so that it can undergo a period of dormancy.

Temperature

It likes lots of sunlight but during the hottest months should be offered semi-shade. In winter it should be protected from strong frosts or prolonged periods of cold (an unheated greenhouse would be ideal)

Watering

Keep moist in winter. Misting is advisable if the atmosphere is very dry.

Pruning

Pinch out the tops of new shoots to keep the tree in shape.

Repotting

Check to see if your tree needs repotting every couple of years.

Feeding

Feed throughout the growing season. Always read the label.

Please Note: The picture is for guidance only. It is not generally possible to send the tree in the picture. Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree, the pot colour may also vary from the picture. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
