Herons Bonsai is a specialist UK bonsai nursery offering a wide range of bonsai trees for sale, both online and at our extensive nursery site. We grow, train and care for bonsai trees with long-term health in mind, helping beginners and enthusiasts alike choose a tree that will thrive for years to come.

Founded in 1986 by Dawn and Peter Chan, Herons Bonsai is widely recognised as Britain’s leading bonsai nursery. Located on a seven-and-a-half-acre landscaped site, our nursery is dedicated entirely to bonsai. We are not a garden centre. Bonsai is our sole focus, and it has shaped everything we do for nearly four decades.

Our nursery exists to support the enjoyment of bonsai as a lifelong pastime, not simply to sell a product. Every bonsai tree offered for sale has been selected, grown or trained by experienced hands and cared for to exacting standards. People from all over the world come to see us.

A Globally Respected Authority in Bonsai

Herons Bonsai was founded by Peter and his wife Dawn. Peter is one of the most respected figures in bonsai worldwide. Peter has been practising bonsai since 1967 and has won a record twenty-one RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medals until he stopped showing in 2006. Most of his nine books on bonsai have been published in seven or eitht languages , and his teaching has inspired generations of bonsai enthusiasts.

In 2025, in recognition of his contribution to bonsai, business and education, Peter was awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Peter's YouTube channel has over half a million subscribers- which is probably the world's largest following for bonsai.

Peter Chan’s passion for bonsai and depth of experience underpin everything we offer here at Herons. From the bonsai for sale on our website to the helpful tutorials and workshops we provide, we hope to spread the word of bonsai and encourage people of all ages and skill levels to partake in this fascinating hobby.

The bonsai collection at RHS Wisley, known as the Herons Bonsai Walk, has been there since 1997. It is there to give people the enjoyment of bonsai. 

Visitors are always welcome at our nursery, where you can explore the grounds, view our bonsai trees in person and enjoy the unique atmosphere of a site dedicated entirely to bonsai. For those who cannot visit our Surrey based nursery, our online shop allows you to browse our full range of bonsai trees for sale. Most of our stock is also available for home delivery at a competitive rate. If you wish to meet Peter personally at Herons, please let our office know in advance.

Our On-Line store has proved very popular for our GB customers. Unfortunately, we can ship only to customers in Great Britain ever since Brexit, which is a great shame. Of course, if you can visit our nursery - that's even better as we will be delighted to see you.

Do you sell indoor bonsai trees?

Yes. We stock a wide range of indoor bonsai trees. Some are easier than others such as the Ficus. but if you have green fingers you should be able to manage most indoor varieties.

Yes. We offer many bonsai trees that are ideal for beginners, chosen for their resilience and ease of care. Guidance is available to help you make the right choice.

Do you deliver bonsai trees?

Yes. We deliver bonsai trees throughout the UK using specialist packaging designed to protect each tree during transit. Delivery options and prices are shown during checkout.

Herons Bonsai was founded in 1986 and has been a specialist bonsai nursery for nearly forty years. Just look at the pictures of our nursery or visit the nursery in person and you will soon realise that we are the best!!

Yes. Our seven-and-a-half-acre nursery is open to visitors and welcomes bonsai enthusiasts, gardeners and newcomers alike.

Yes. We provide ongoing advice and educational support through written resources, in-person guidance and online tutorials created to help customers care for their bonsai with confidence. Peter has written nine bonsai books which have introduced bonsai to millions and more recently, Peter's YouTube channel has been a hit to say the least.
