Founded in 1986 by Dawn and Peter Chan, Herons Bonsai is widely recognised as Britain’s leading bonsai nursery. Located on a seven-and-a-half-acre landscaped site, our nursery is dedicated entirely to bonsai. We are not a garden centre. Bonsai is our sole focus, and it has shaped everything we do for nearly four decades.

Our nursery exists to support the enjoyment of bonsai as a lifelong pastime, not simply to sell a product. Every bonsai tree offered for sale has been selected, grown or trained by experienced hands and cared for to exacting standards.

Herons Bonsai was founded by Peter Chan, one of the most respected figures in bonsai worldwide. Peter has been practising bonsai since 1967 and has won a record twenty-one RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medals. His books on bonsai are published internationally, and his teaching has inspired generations of bonsai enthusiasts.

The Herons Bonsai Collection is on permanent display at the RHS Gardens at Wisley, supported by Dawn and Peter since 1997. In 2025, in recognition of his contribution to bonsai, business and education, Peter was awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.
