The Podocarpus is a native to China and Japan. Also know as the Chinese Yew or the Buddhist Pine. It is a slow growing
evergreen conifer that is easy to care for. It won’t loose its leaves in winter making it an interesting bonsai all year round.
Location
Can be kept
indoors (though they do benefit from being put outdoors in the summer).
Temperature
This tree must be protected from frosts so if kept outside ensure protection when it’s cold. If kept inside they need a cool room around 10°C - 15°C they also require light room. Hot dry rooms will dehydrate them.
Watering
Keep the soil moist but do not overwater as this will cause the leaves to turn grey.
Pruning
Prune the growing tips at any time whilst the plant is in growth. Do not cut through the needles as this will make them turn brown.
Repotting
Repot when needed. Check every 2-3 years.
Feeding
Apply a high-nitrogen fertiliser one a month during the summer (always read the lable)
