The Ginkgo biloba is a hardy, deciduous tree that has vivid coloured leaves that go from green to rich golden yellow in autumn before dropping them altogether.
Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest species of tree to have survived from ancient times, although it is now extinct in the wild. The species is highly prized as bonsai in China and Japan, because of its beautiful leaves, and because these trees can live to a great age. Male and female flowers are borne on separate trees: male flowers resemble catkins, while the rounded female blooms are followed by plum-like fruits. Most ginkgos are trained in the flame shape, which is how they grow naturally. They are available as bonsai from specialist nurseries or as nursery material for training.
Water regularly from spring to autumn, and in winter keep the compost just moist. The foliage will benefit from regular misting in summer.
Please Note: The picture is for guidance only. It is not generally possible to send the tree in the picture. Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree, the pot colour may also vary from the picture. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
