The Serissa, also known as the Tree of a thousand stars, is a small, indoor, evergreen/ semi-evergreen shrub that can flower twice a year. The roughly shaped trunks and tiny leaves make this a very popular indoor Bonsai tree.
Location
Stable conditions are primary for this bonsai! They do not like drastic temperature drops or changes in location. For this reason they can be challenging to keep and are better suited to more experienced growers.
Temperature
Serissas like humidity so a bathroom or kitchen is ideal. They thrive in lots of light. They need warm conditions to maintain their leaves so if the temperature starts to drop below 7°C the leaves may start to drop and branches may die back.
Watering
In summer you may need to water daily. They should never be allowed to completely dry out. Mist daily if no flowers are growing. If the tree drops its leaves (perhaps because it’s been moved or the temperatures changed, etc.) continue but slightly decrease watering.
Pruning
Prune the tips during the growing season to keep the plant in good shape (being careful not to remove too many as these may carry the flowers)
Repotting
Repot when needed in mid spring but only if the tree is strong. Check every few years.
Feeding
Apply general feed every 2-3 weeks in the growing season. Always read the label.
Please Note: The picture is for guidance only. It is not generally possible to send the tree in the picture. Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree, the pot colour may also vary from the picture. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
