Ligustrum ‘Chinese Privet’ is a hardy deciduous plant with small green leaves. They are fast growing and easy to train as bonsai. Variegated forms show better colouration when placed in full sun.

Location

They can also be grown indoors and they need a bright, sunny  position (around 10°C). If it is kept indoors it will benefit from a spell outside in the summer. They can be grown outdoors where they do well.

Temperature

If kept indoors they do best in a position that is bright and no warmer than around 10°C. If kept outside, protect from frosts.

Watering

Water regularly, compost should be kept moist all year round, especially during the growing season.

Pruning

This species requires light pruning in mid summer, to maintain their shape.

Repotting

Repot when necessary. Check every couple of years.

Feeding

Feed with a general fertilizer every couple of weeks during spring and summer (always follow instructions)
