Large Outdoor Field Maple Bonsai Tree stands approximately 90-94cm tall and planted in a mica bonsai pot. Due to the size, shape, value or weight of this piece it would need to be collected from our nursery.

Acer campestre or Field Maple is a hardy, deciduous outdoor plant that is easy to train with a good leaf shape. Leaves start green and  turn yellow or orange in autumn before shedding. Can be used for most bonsai styles and if planted in the ground will grow rapidly. 

Location & Temperature 

Can be kept in full sun or partial shade. No protection required in winter. 

Watering

Water copiously from spring to autumn. It may need watering twice a day in summer. Keep soil moist in winter. 

Pruning

Prune back old growth in  spring or summer  as this species is fast growing bonsai. 

Repotting

Check to see if your tree needs repotting every two or three years. 

Feeding 

Feed every month from spring to summer. Always read the label.

We have been running our bonsai classes and workshops at Herons for over thirty years where they have been the source of inspiration for many bonsai enthusiasts. Currently we run a number of different workshops by Peter Chan or a Herons Team Member. 
 
What is a Workshop?
All our workshops are hands on sessions for all abilities, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. You can learn many aspects of bonsai in this class. 

These workshops book up fast so please do book if you would like to attend.

We do have a waiting list that you are welcome to join by emailing [email protected] letting us know how many places you are looking to book, please accompany this with your contact number, this means we can call if we get a late cancellation.

If you are looking for a 1-2-1 class with Peter Chan he can normally offer a 2 hour time slot on a Monday or Tuesday morning starting at 11am finishing at 1pm. 

You can also book a 1-2-1 with one of our experienced Herons Team Member should you wish.
