Guided by a Herons Team Member, plus you get to take the tree you've worked on home, all included in the price (you won't be working on your own tree in this class and the material is an outdoor species).

Introduction to Bonsai workshop

Starting out in Bonsai? Want to know the basics?

This course is specifically aimed at those in the early stages or just beginning their Bonsai journey. 

Join a member of our team on a working Bonsai Nursery. Learn a little of its history and how Bonsai are grown, styled and maintained. These workshops are friendly, informal and hands on and you get to take home what you make! Please note that during the workshop you will work on nursery material (outdoor species not indoor) and not your own tree.  

Start Time: Workshops begin at 10am and concludes around 1pm
Space: 5 students per class
Guided by: Herons Team Member

If you are booking for someone under 18 years old a parent / guardian will need to remain on-site for the duration of the class.

What to wear for this workshop?

Please wear sturdy shoes/boots as we will take a short tour of the bonsai growing field before we begin the tutorial and the field can be uneven and often wet (especially during colder / wet weather)

What's included in the price?

All materials and tools are included in the price and you get to take the tree you make home with you. Please note that the tree used is an outdoor species.

Cancellation policy

If you are unable to attend a workshop we are happy for you to reschedule once without charge, but we need at least 4 weeks notice. We aren't able offer a refund. 

Feel free to arrive earlier if you wish (and we are open) to have a look round our 7 Acre Nursery and Japanese garden. Alternatively you can stay on afterwards to have a look around (gates close at 4pm daily)

We have ample on-site parking and washroom facilities. We also have good disabled access.

Bonsai Workshops and Classes run by Herons Bonsai
We have been running our bonsai classes and workshops at Herons for over thirty years where they have been the source of inspiration for many bonsai enthusiasts. Currently we run a number of different workshops by Peter Chan or a Herons Team Member. 
 
What is a Workshop?
All our workshops are hands on sessions for all abilities, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. You can learn many aspects of bonsai in this class. 

These workshops book up fast so please do book if you would like to attend.

We do have a waiting list that you are welcome to join by emailing [email protected] letting us know how many places you are looking to book, please accompany this with your contact number, this means we can call if we get a late cancellation.

If you are looking for a 1-2-1 class with Peter Chan he can normally offer a 2 hour time slot on a Monday or Tuesday morning starting at 11am finishing at 1pm. 

You can also book a 1-2-1 with one of our experienced Herons Team Member should you wish.
