The Portulacaria Afra or Dwarf Jade is an easy to keep succulent. They develop a tree-like habit with sturdy trunks and recognizable branches. Jade has the added advantage of small leaves, and a trunk and branches that can be wired into any shape.

Location

The Jade tree is considered an indoor tree in most temperate zones, however it can be grown outdoors if it’s in full sun (with sufficiently high temperatures). If kept indoors require a substantial amount of light.

Temperature

Keep temperatures above 5°C or 40°F at all times.

Watering

They prefer fairly dry conditions, so water sparingly in summer and give less in winter. Overwatering will cause the leaves to grow large and floppy.

Pruning

Prune to maintain the trees shape during growing season. Pruning will encourage the tree to grow new branches.

Repotting

Check to see if your tree needs repotting, this can be done every couple of years.

Feeding

Feed once a month throughout spring and autumn. Always read the label.

Please Note: The picture is for guidance only. It is not generally possible to send the tree in the picture. Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree, the pot colour may also vary from the picture. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
