Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Hinoki Cypress' is an outdoor, evergreen that has bright green foliage, arranged in whorls along the branches, and attractive, reddish -brown bark.

Location

As an outdoor tree the Hinoki Cypress will happily survive in full sun throughout the growing season.

Temperature

It’s native to southern Japan and is normally hardy in temperate areas, although plants may need some protection in a frost-free shed or greenhouse if winter temperatures fall below -5°C. Protect from icy winds.

Watering

Water regularly from spring to early autumn and occasionally during dry spells in the winter so that the soil remains moist.

Pruning

Prune back secondary branches in spring or summer.

Repotting

Check the tree every two to four years to see if it needs repotting.

Feeding

Either solid organic fertiliser every four weeks or use a liquid feed every week during the growing season. Always read the label.

Please Note: The tree in the picture is the one we will send. Measurements given are approximate not exact and are taken from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ slightly in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
