The Ficus carica or Edible fig is an
outdoor deciduous tree (meaning it will drop its leaves and fruits). The Edible Fig is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees, believed to have been grown by humans for the past 5,000 years. It makes a very interesting bonsai and is easy to train and to grow. Gradually Edible Fig is becoming more widely available as bonsai from commercial nurseries, although bonsai hobbyists have been producing them from many years and they are very easy to propagate from cuttings. It is a vigorous plant, but if kept fairly pot bound, the leaves and fruit reduce in size.
Location
Keep outdoors all year round in full sun/ partial shade in the hottest months to prevent the leaves from becoming scorched.
Temperature
Thrives in hot, dry, semi-desert conditions. It has a fairly wide hardiness tolerance. Protect in a greenhouse or conservatory in winter.
Watering
Water this drought resistant plant sparingly.
Pruning
Pinch and prune regularly during the growing season.
Repotting
Repot your tree when it needs it. Possibly every three to five years. Any form of soil can be used, figs thrive in poor soil
Feeding
Feed sparingly, enough to keep foliage green. Always read the label.

Please Note: The picture is for guidance only. It is not generally possible to send the tree in the picture. Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree, the pot colour may also vary from the picture. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
