The Fig is an outdoor deciduous tree (meaning it will drop its leaves and fruits). The Edible Fig is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees, believed to have been grown by humans for the past 5,000 years. It makes a very interesting bonsai and is easy to train and to grow. Gradually Edible Fig is becoming more widely available as bonsai from commercial nurseries, although bonsai hobbyists have been producing them from many years and they are very easy to propagate from cuttings. It is a vigerous plant, but if kept fairly pot bound, the leaves and fruit reduce in size.
Thrives in hot, dry, semi-desert conditions. It has a fairly wide hardiness tolerance. Keep in full sun all year round, however during very hot summer days, some shade may be required to prevent leaves from becoming sun scorched.
Repotting:
Repot every 3-5 Years in spring. Any form of soil can be used, figs thrive in poor soil
Please Note: Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
