Citrus plants make attractive, easy-to-keep bonsai. The mid to pale green leaves are oval and borne on often spiny stems. The scented white flowers appear from late spring to summer and are followed by yellow or orange fruits. They are common in Asia - especially around the lunar New Year in China, when fruits symbolise wealth - but are harder to get hold of elsewhere.

Location & Temperature

All Citrus are native to Mediterranean or sub tropical areas and therefore need protection in Winter if grown in Northern Europe. They will grow happily indoors in a cool room (between 8 - 12°C) with lots of good light. An unheated conservatory is a good environment in winter but they can be put outdoors in Summer.

Miniature Citrus bonsai. Has lovely scented blossoms in Spring followed by these small fruits which turn orange colour in Winter. Always a talking point. Ideal for a cool room or unheated conservatory.

Watering

Water freely in summer, making sure that the compost never dries out, water less in spring and autumn. The rootball must never be waterlogged. These plants prefer to be kept drier in winter, in just moist compost. Misting is advisable if the rooms atmosphere is very dry.

Pruning

Prune to shape this tree when required.

Repotting

Check to see if your tree needs repotting every three or so years.

Feeding

Feed after the tree has flowered and again when fruit has set. Use weak general feed, too much will encourage the leaves to yellow and fall.

Please Note: The one in the picture is the one we will send. It is not generally possible to send the tree in the picture. Please note that measurements given are approximate not exact. Measurements given are from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree, the pot colour may also vary from the picture. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
