Cedrus Atlantica Glauca Group or Blue Atlas Cedar is an outdoor, evergreen species of tree used in bonsai. They are easy to train as bonsai in most of the recognised styles and are quite widely used by European and Japanese enthusiasts.
Location
Outside in full sun.
Temperature
Hardy in temperate climates. They do not require protection in winter. They can be kept in full sun throughout the year.
Watering
Cedars dislike permanent moisture so be careful not to over water. Good drainage is necessary. Water regularly from spring to autumn and occasionally in winter during dry spells.
Pruning
Prune back branches in spring and autumn. When pruning, cut just above the cluster of needles. Be careful not to cut through the needles and this will cause them to turn brown.
Repotting
Check to see if the tree needs repotting every 2 or 3 years in spring.
Feeding
Apply a light high nitrogen feed in early spring. Follow this with 2-3 applications of a general feed in summer.
