This Acer palmatum is part of the  'Atropurpureum' group. It has a lovely deeply lobed, purple foliage throughout the spring and summer. In the autumn, the foliage turns vivid crimson red, creating a wonderful seasonal canvas. Unusually, 'Atropurpureum' will show differences in leaf size and shape  from plant to plant.

Location

Keep outside all year,  in full sun or partial shade. Sheltered location

Temperature

Japanese maples can withstand cold temperatures but only for brief periods. If prolonged freezing conditions are forecast, protect in an unheated greenhouse or shed. In summer they can be kept in full sun and will produce better autumn colours than if grown in the shade. However, provide protection from fierce sunlight so that the foliage doesn’t become scorched.

Watering

They like a lot of water. Never let the soil dry out completely.

Pruning

Prune to maintain the trees shape throughout the year.

Repotting

Check if your tree needs repotting every few years.

Feeding

Always read the label when growing.

Please Note: The tree in the picture is the one we will send. Measurements given are approximate not exact and are taken from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree. Due to their nature trees grow and whilst in our care may need pruning, this means the tree that you receive may differ slightly in size to that given in the description. The appearance of the tree may vary depending on the season.
