Outdoor Bonsai - Maples
The Japanese maple is by far the most popular deciduous bonsai. There are many varieties - all with different leaf shapes and colours. They are flamboyant and showy trees providing colour all year round.
They start off fresh green or bronze in the spring (The red maples of course are red to begin with); they then turn a deeper shade of green in the summer and finally end up bright crimson in the autumn. Even without their leaves in the winter, they are stunning to look at.
No bonsai collection can ever be complete without a few maples.

As from 2009, many deciduous species from Japan and China, including Acers, have been prohibited entry into the EU. This has resulted in a shortage of Maples among bonsai nurseries. Fortunately, we are not affected as we have been growing Acers for the past twenty four years on our nursery. We sow thousands of maple seeds, graft and air-layer most of our large trees, and make our own bonsai maples. We are certainly not short of Maples!
